# Your first conversation with Corey

Your first conversation starts with a connection check, then a short interview where Corey asks one question at a time to learn about you and your work. It then sets up your workspace as plain files in your folder and shows you three specific things it can do for you right now.

## Steps
1. Paste the kickoff prompt: Once Corey is connected (connector added and signed in), paste the kickoff prompt in a chat with Corey and Cowork active. This is what starts the onboarding sequence.
2. Corey runs whoami: Corey calls whoami to confirm the connection is healthy. If it fails, Corey stops and tells you exactly what to fix. Common causes are a connector that was added but not signed in, or a leftover http:// entry on the CLI.
3. The Meet Corey interview: Corey calls onboard and walks you through the interview one question at a time. It asks about you, your work, and how you want Corey to help. This provisions your account on the engine and starts your 28-day probation at no cost.
4. Corey sets up your workspace: Corey writes your answers into a set of plain files in your folder: your business profile, a context overlay, and the project structure it needs to do real work. Everything is readable and editable.
5. Three concrete actions: Corey shows you three specific things it can do for you right now, drawn from what you told it in the interview. These are real tasks, not a generic list.

## FAQ
Q: What is the kickoff prompt?
A: The kickoff prompt is a short instruction you paste into the first chat after connecting Corey. It tells Corey to confirm the connection, run the onboarding interview, set up your workspace, and show you three next steps. Both the Desktop and CLI guides include the exact prompt to paste.

Q: When does my probation start?
A: Your 28-day probation at no cost starts when Corey runs the onboard tool, not when you add the connector. You do not need a card to start.

Q: What does Corey write to my folder?
A: Corey writes a set of plain text files including your business profile and a context overlay. These files are yours, they are readable, and you can edit them at any time. Nothing is stored on Corey's servers.

Q: What if whoami fails?
A: Corey stops and tells you the exact cause. Common causes are the connector being added but not signed in (Desktop users should open the connector and click Connect; CLI users should run /mcp and then Authenticate), or a leftover http:// entry in the CLI config.
