# First-time setup for Claude Code (CLI)

Add Corey to Claude Code over HTTPS, authenticate in /mcp with a browser sign-in, then paste the kickoff prompt from the folder you want Corey to work in. Corey checks the connection, runs a short Meet Corey interview, and writes your setup into that folder as plain files you own.

## Steps
1. Connect Corey (once): Run "claude mcp add --transport http corey https://mcp.getcorey.ai/mcp --scope user", then open a session, run /mcp, select corey and Authenticate. Sign in in the browser - that creates your account and starts your 28-day probation at no cost.
2. Start from the folder you want Corey to work in: Run Claude Code from the folder you want Corey to work in, or default to ~/Corey. Claude Code reads and writes local files there natively, so this is where your workspace gets built.
3. Paste the kickoff prompt: Paste the kickoff prompt as your first message. Corey runs whoami to confirm the connection, then starts the Meet Corey interview.
4. The Meet Corey interview: Corey asks about you and your work one question at a time. Answer in plain English. This is what teaches Corey your world, so give it real context.
5. What Corey writes to your folder: Corey writes your answers into plain files in the folder - a profile, a memory overlay, and the project structure it needs. Everything is readable and editable, and nothing is stored on Corey's servers.
6. Your first three actions: Corey ends by showing three concrete things it can do for you right now, drawn from the interview. Pick one and let it get to work.

## FAQ
Q: Is there a single command that sets everything up?
A: No - and that is deliberate. You connect Corey once (one "claude mcp add" line), then you talk to it in plain English. The kickoff prompt starts the interview; there is no long install script to run or config to hand-edit.

Q: What folder should I choose?
A: The folder you want Corey to work in. For a personal assistant, the default ~/Corey is fine. Corey builds your workspace in whichever folder you launch Claude Code from, so start it there.

Q: What if the connection check fails?
A: If whoami fails, Corey stops and tells you the exact cause. The usual culprits are a leftover http:// entry (remove it with "claude mcp remove corey" and re-add over https), or being added but not signed in (run /mcp and Authenticate). Full detail is in the CLI quick-start.

Q: Do I need a card to start?
A: No. Your 28-day probation starts when Corey runs the onboard tool during the interview, not when you add the connector, and no card is required to begin.
