Corey on Claude Desktop

To get Corey running on Claude Desktop, download the app, add Corey as a connector and sign in, create a folder for Corey to work in, turn on Cowork and point it at that folder, then type "onboard" to start your 28-day probation at no cost. No card needed.

Corey runs inside the Claude Desktop app and works from a folder on your computer. This guide takes about 10 minutes, and the first 28 days are at no cost with no card required.

You need: the Claude Desktop app (Mac or Windows) on a paid Claude plan that includes Cowork.

Step 1: Download Claude Desktop and sign in

Download Claude Desktop from claude.ai/download and sign in to your Claude plan. Use the app, not the browser. Corey works from a folder on your computer, and Cowork (built into the app) is what reads and writes that folder for you.

Step 2: Add the Corey connector

In Claude Desktop:

  1. Settings > Customize > Connectors.
  2. Click the + next to Connectors, then Add custom connector.
  3. Name: Corey. URL: https://mcp.getcorey.ai/mcp. Leave the OAuth fields blank.
  4. Click Add, then Connect, and sign in when the Corey sign-in page appears.

Adding the connector is not the same as signing in. Your Corey account is created the first time you sign in. Your 28-day probation at no cost starts when you run onboard in Step 5. No card needed.

Step 3: Choose a folder for Corey

Corey keeps its knowledge as plain files in a folder you own. For your first run, create a new folder, for example one called Corey in your home or Documents folder. A fresh folder keeps things tidy.

It is also safe to point Corey at a folder you already use. Setup is non-destructive: it only adds files that are missing and never deletes anything.

Step 4: Turn on Cowork and point it at the folder

This step uses Cowork’s built-in file access, not the old Filesystem extension.

  1. In Claude Desktop, open the Home tab and turn on the Cowork toggle in the message box.
  2. Click Work in a folder (below the message box) and choose the folder from Step 3.
  3. Make sure Corey is switched on for the chat too (the connectors and tools icon in the message box).

Cowork can now read and write files in that folder for you, and it asks before deleting anything.

Step 5: Type onboard to start your probation

With Cowork pointed at your folder and Corey switched on, type:

shell
onboard

Corey introduces itself, asks a few questions, and sets up your workspace one step at a time. This is what starts your 28-day probation at no cost. Everything Corey creates is a plain file in your folder, and nothing is stored on Corey’s servers.

Step 6: Save the setup as a Project

A Claude Project remembers your folder and instructions across every chat.

  1. In the left sidebar, click +, choose Use an existing folder, and pick your Corey folder.
  2. Open the project’s Instructions and paste:
shell
Use the Corey connector for everything in this project.
British English, £, DD/MM/YYYY, no em dashes.

Now your folder and Corey are ready every time you open the project.

Good to know

  • Your data stays yours. Corey’s knowledge lives in your folder on your computer. Nothing is stored on Corey’s servers.
  • Safe on an existing folder. Setup only adds missing files and never deletes, so pointing Corey at a folder you already use will not overwrite your work.
  • Want it on another machine? Ask Corey to back up your folder to a private GitHub repo when you are ready.
  • Pricing. After the 28-day probation: £49 a month or £490 a year. Corey often has a founder welcome discount at checkout.

Questions, answered

Yes. Corey runs inside Claude Desktop and requires a paid Claude plan that includes Cowork. The Claude plan and the Corey subscription are separate.
Adding the connector registers the URL with Claude Desktop. Signing in creates your Corey account. You must do both. Your 28-day probation at no cost starts the first time you run onboard, not when you add the connector.
Yes. Corey's setup is non-destructive. It only adds files that are missing and never deletes anything. A new folder is the tidiest way to start, but an existing folder works fine.
Cowork is the built-in file-access feature in Claude Desktop. It lets Corey read and write files in your folder. Without Cowork pointed at your folder, Corey can answer questions but cannot build or maintain your workspace.
